About Me

In broad-brush terms, the words "unique" and "eclectic" describe my interests - and me - fairly well. I'll throw out some specifics in random order. I love languages, folklore/mythology, history, science (especially zoology), reading, etc. My sense of humor is both dry and obscure. I'm a lawyer with a "Renaissance" background in political science, biology, etc. My sense of humor is both dry and obscure. I feel a strong desire to better the world around me, and I did the grad degrees with those goals in mind; did the money thing for a few years during the dot-com bubble, found it unfulfilling. I write fiction in my spare time, as well as some non-fiction. I enjoy talking about convoluted topics, my top three favorites being world affairs, linguistics and science. I speak several languages - English, obviously, also German, Russian, French, and I understand some Latin, although I'm quite rusty in all of the languages that aren't English. I've lived in and traveled extensively throughout the US and Europe. I love foreign films and some indie films. I read a great deal. I've lived in and traveled extensively throughout the US and Europe. I read a great deal, my favorites being fantasy/sci-fi and classic literature (especially French and Russian), and I also read a great deal of history and science (especially neurology, linguistics and related). As for exercise, I enjoy yoga, bellydance and swimming, also fencing, although I'm a complete novice at the last one. Let's see. My favorite periods of history are Russia (all eras); pre-Revolutionary Enlightenment France; Italian Renaissance, England (Normans, Elizabethan); Classical Rome. Love those wicked, twisted eras.

For those who may have met me in the past and were looking for old acquaintances in a fit of nostalgic boredom (fun!), I thought I'd give some brief specifics. I coded for an LPMud called Valhalla for a number of years under the screenname Imbrium (1992-1996). I worked for a little dotcom named Commerce One from 2000-2004. Over the years, I earned degrees from UC Santa Cruz (BA), USD Law (JD), USD (MA) and SDSU (BS). Some other things, too, but those are the key ones.

More specifically, my undergraduate background is a BA in Russian Studies and a BS in Biology, emphasis in Zoology. The Russian Studies major was a self-designed independent major made up of a healthy mix of politics, history, literature, linguistics and languages (Russian, German, Latin. Studied French in HS, too). For the zoology degree, I volunteered for behavior research projects with Northern and Southern White Rhinos as well as Bonobos (pygmy chimps).

I returned to school in 2002 after a few years on the dot com roller coaster. Tech was quite educational in its own way, driving home exactly how often rank stupidity, ego and irrationality guide decision making at all levels of life. An important lesson to keep in mind at all times.

In my spare time, I write fiction. I update my blog on a semi-regular basis.
